Lions Sight Program In Action!

July 18, 2018

Lions Liz Latasa, President and Rose Lewis, Sight Chairwoman, donate collected glasses from local Optometrist offices and Senior Citizen Center, who donate them to The California Lions Friends in Sight. We met with Larry Perrault of the Beaumont Lions Club who described the sight testing equipment needed and an approximate cost of $250,00 they raised to purchase it.

The glasses are washed in dishwashers, categorized by lens strengths and placed in a huge wall of filing cabinets by order of strengrh.

The people getting glasses have their eyes checked out by a nifty electronic vision detection machine. Then they get glasses tried on closest to their own needs.

The Sathya Sai Organization of America participates with their group from the Pacific Region South Medical Camp in assisting in all phases of the testing and working with the Lions to categorize the eyeglasses with vision patients. Then the opthamologist sees the patients. Some patients will show up needing more than glasses for their vision problems, and the Opthamologist is needed for eye diseases, abnormalities, malnourishment and more things that can affect vision. Many of the Volunteers talk about their work for Eye Clinics in Mexico that Lions assist in with Doctors, equipment and volunteers.
