Miss Oceanside, Miss Teen Oceanside Crowned for 2017

The 2017 Miss Oceanside and Miss Teen Oceanside Scholarship
Pageant was held on April 1st at the James Truax Performing
Arts Center. Thirty one girls competed for the crowns in front
of a full audience. The annual pageant is a fundraiser for
the Oceanside Sea Lions with profits going to scholarships
and charity. Also held on Saturday night was the Peoples
Choice Award, voted on by the audience, with the proceeds
from Peoples Choice going to the Vista Blind Center
to purchase 50 white canes for the blind.
The pageant theme was Salute to our Troops with
an opening number by all the contestants. Breana Banuelos,
Miss Oceanside 2016 and Caitlin Guiao Miss Teen
Oceanside- 2016 were also part of the opening. The MC for
the event was Don Reedy. The contestants were escorted in
their evening gowns by the El Camino ROTC.

The first awards
of the night went for Outstanding Achievement,
Honor roll mentions for Teen went to: Camryn Guiao, Alisa
Walker, Haley Cook, Carmen Gagliardi and Sophia Schlesinger.
The winner for Outstanding Teen went to: Chloe Metoyer. Honor
roll mentions for Miss went to: Tamiah Jackson, Gabriella
Duren, Kristalina Banuelos and Valeria Estrada. The winner
for Outstanding Miss went to: Elizabeth Carlson.
The winners of the main event for Teen were as follows: Miss
Congeniality: Venus Johnson, Peoples Choice: Hannah
Mendoza, 3rd Princess: Kyanna Knutson, 2nd Princess: Haley
Cook, 1st Princess Kassidy Betz, and the 2017 Miss
Teen Oceanside is: Lauren Bell.
The winners for the Miss category are: Miss Congeniality and
Peoples Choice went to: Maggie Islas. 3rd Princess:
Kristalina Banuelos, 2nd Princess: Sarah Holloway, and 1st
Princess: Ilona Malinovska. The 2017 Miss Oceanside is: Maggie
Islas.
The queens and their princesses become goodwill ambassadors
for the City of Oceanside, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce
and the Oceanside Sea Lions and appear throughout the year
at city events, ribbon cuttings, and Oceanside Chamber Mixers.
The Oceanside Sea Lions would like to thank everyone for their
